When an open concept space is the top priority in your major kitchen renovation, the walls must come down! Some structural reworking and some gorgeous modern updates were how we pulled off this huge project in Erin, Ontario.

The Space:
Purpose of this major renovation, spanning the kitchen and main floor living area, was to create an open concept space that felt big, contemporary and high-end. Hand scraped oak hardwood floors in a Cocoa finish were carried throughout the main floor to emphasize the open concept layout.
The Renovation Plan:
The first major move to get started was tearing down walls and reworking the electrical and plumbing; all so the kitchen could open into the living area. This step instantly made the whole main floor feel massive.
Custom cabinets and built-ins were created for the most-efficient storage, as well as to include a work space desk. The cabinetry was painted in Benjamin Moore Marble White, while the island used an espresso-stained maple. We chose fixtures in antique nickel to add a splash of modern flare, while also allowing other elements to come forward and shine.
The Renovation Highlights
One of the materials that took the spotlight in this light colour scheme is the dark Mezzanote granite countertops. They add some beautiful contrast to the walls, trim, backsplash and cabinets. Additionally, the dark, Blanco Diamond U2 undermount sink tied directly into the countertops and acted as a beautiful, unconventional statement piece.
