Combination Mudroom and Laundry Room

A warm, fully-functional laundry room and mudroom renovation.

Location: Erin, ON
Date: 2017
Budget: $47,000
Style: Traditional

The Space:

Originally an additional bathroom, this renovation was done with the dual purpose of being both a mudroom and laundry room. This beauty of this space is that it adds so much functionality. It’s an efficient room to manage laundry and storage, while keeping the chaos from kids and pets contained to one area.

The Renovation Plan:

To create a large, functional space, the original bathroom was removed and the walls expanded into the hallway. This ultimately gave us plenty of space to work with and create an ideal room for the family. We chose pocket entry doors to maximize the square footage and remove the issue of leaving a clear area for the door swing.

The original carpet was removed and replaced with porcelain tile throughout, making for easier maintenance and lessening potential damage in case of a flood. The laundry sink area was custom made to fit with the washer and dryer and offer added storage units.

The focal feature was the addition of the doggie shower, a popular new trend in renovations for people with pets.

The Renovation Highlights:

This renovation created a beautiful space that’s optimized for efficiently handling laundry and containing the mess of a busy lifestyle. The laundry cabinets and custom built-in for coat and shoes storage were painted in a Champagne Matte finish, adding a clean, classic look to mudroom.

The lighter cabinets and porcelain backsplash, and midtones in the floor tile and walls, were pulled together by the dark Wilsonart Ebony Fusion countertops. The result is a warm, practical space that works for the whole family.
