Karry’s Take: Semi-Detached, Fully Appealing

This surprisingly spacious (1,800 square foot) Toronto semi represents something of a rarity among living options in the city: a brand new build, right on the edge of downtown, that ISN’T just another unit in a faceless condo tower.

Take a tour of this this centrally located gem with us, and see why we feel its simple yet sophisticated design offers great potential for any buyer to truly make the space their own.

What We Love

1. Location, location… (and you know where we’re going with this). Situated at the corner of Adelaide Street and Niagara Street, just steps from the heart of Queen West, the lucky buyers of this three-storey (including rooftop patio) semi-detached house are both living large, and living close – no suite number or elevator ride required.

2. Open, airy, interior. We’ve posted before about Scandinavian design; this home has many of the elements of that design approach built right in. It starts with the open concept floor plan, and drills down to details like the light-coloured wood used throughout the space.

3. Sleek and stylish kitchen. The overall design approach of the home is perhaps most evident here. The kitchen is beautiful, no question, but it might appear too stark to some. A simple change in cabinetry, for example, could help add texture and warmth to the space.

4. Bedrooms, bathrooms and beyond. The rather minimalist design theme carries through to these rooms, as well. But the beauty of this house is in its bones: Just add your choice of furniture, fabrics and textures, or perhaps some carefully placed built-ins – the kind that Karry specializes in – and you can turn minimal and modern into something else entirely. If you prefer.

The Bottom Line

With its open concept layout and simple architectural elements, we see this house as a blank canvas for any homeowner’s creative whims. Just add imagination, and each of its three levels can become as unique and interesting as the person fortunate enough to call it home.
